The opti-MOVES project combines diagnosis and optimization methods to improve the quality of intermodal services in urban public transport. Such methods will support decision-making of mobility operators and authorities in planning, monitoring and optimizing intermodal operations in the definition of urban policies. The team consists of researchers and faculty from INESC TEC.

The project is structured around three main components:

  • Visualization and knowledge extraction, with support of knowledge extraction methods that allow for the identification of patterns that affect the quality of services;
  • Optimization techniques to improve the quality levels of these services;
  • Information system for supporting decision-making.

Research will be based on a participative process and on large amounts of data obtained from transport operators and urban contexts. Transport operators will be able to use the knowledge generated by the project, and in particular the developed tools, for planning, monitoring and optimizing intermodal operations. These tools can also be used by local authorities to define and evaluate urban transport policies.

The project is financed by the ERDF – European Regional Development Fund through the Operational Programme for Competitiveness and Internationalisation – COMPETE 2020 Programme and by National Funds through the Portuguese funding agency, FCT – Fundacão para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (PTDC/ECI-TRA/32053/2017 and POCI-01-0145-FEDER-032053).
